BudgetNSF-certified on 25 products — but not USP Verified
Owned by Haleon and among the highest-volume multivitamins in the US. NSF lists 25 Centrum products certified to NSF/ANSI 173 under Haleon US Holdings LLC — MultiGummies, Silver tablets, prenatal and postnatal gummies, menopause products — a substantial subset rather than the whole line. Worth stating plainly because several review sites get it wrong: Centrum does NOT appear in USP's Verified database, and no Centrum product is NSF Certified for Sport.

Confirmed NSF Certified for Sport in NSF's own database across effectively the current line — the AG1 powders and flavours, Next Gen, Pro, AG Omega, Vitamin D3+K2 drops, AGZ and Essentials Gummies. That is lot-level product certification, the stricter of NSF's programmes. One correction worth making: AG1 is NOT USP Verified. Its published references to USP concern heavy-metal guideline limits it tests against, which is not the same as holding the USP mark.

Its efficacy evidence comes from company-sponsored randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials of roughly 40 to 80 participants each over six months — placebo-controlled, but sponsored and small.

MidNSF-certified on many products, not all
Unilever-owned, gummy-forward brand. NSF lists a large roster of Olly finished products certified to NSF/ANSI 173 under OLLY, Public Benefit Corporation, across facilities in California, Florida, Illinois and Indiana. Olly's own help centre puts it accurately: many products are NSF Certified and others are in evaluation — so check the specific product, not the brand. No USP verification and no NSF Certified for Sport listing.

MidOrganic-certified; no purity-testing certification
Holds agricultural and label certifications but no contaminant or banned-substance testing certification: USDA Organic via QAI, Non-GMO and Plant-Based through NSF-administered programmes, and mostly Kosher via the Orthodox Union. Those verify sourcing, composition and label attributes — not purity or heavy-metal content. Orgain states on its own support site that its products are not NSF Certified for Sport, and it is not USP Verified. FDA records two Class I allergen recalls: undeclared sesame in September 2023 and undeclared peanut in December 2024.

MidRetailer; no third-party certification confirmed
No third-party quality certification could be confirmed from any certifier's own database — GNC is absent from USP's Verified listing, from NSF Certified for Sport, and from NSF's GMP facility registry. Its published quality claims describe in-house scientific and regulatory review and internal testing, which is self-administered rather than independent. Contrary to common belief it no longer manufactures: SEC filings show Nutra Manufacturing was moved into a joint venture with International Vitamin Corporation in March 2019, with IVC's stake contractually rising to 100%. In December 2016 GNC entered a non-prosecution agreement with the Department of Justice and paid $2.25 million.

MidNo certification; 2020 FDA cGMP warning letter
States it works with 'accredited third-party labs' but names no third-party certification programme for its finished supplements, and appears in neither USP's Verified listing nor NSF's dietary-supplement database. FDA issued a warning letter on 20 March 2020 after a 2019 inspection, citing current Good Manufacturing Practice violations under 21 CFR Part 111 and deeming its Chocolate and Vanilla Collagen Protein adulterated. Its named certifications (Rainforest Alliance, Specialty Coffee Association) apply to coffee sourcing, not supplement quality.

Nootropic and fitness brand best known for Alpha Brain. It does not appear in USP's Verified listing, and a search of NSF Certified for Sport returns no Onnit products. The company's own claim is facility-level — that it manufactures in 'NSF certified GMP facilities' — which is a GMP registration rather than certification of any individual product. Review sites describe Alpha Brain as BSCG Certified Drug Free; that could not be confirmed in BSCG's own client database, so we record it as unconfirmed rather than absent. The distinction matters: this is a gap in what we could verify, not evidence that testing does not happen.

Goli Nutrition
MidNo third-party certification confirmed
Direct-to-consumer gummy brand known for apple cider vinegar and ashwagandha products. No USP verification, no NSF/ANSI 173 certification and no NSF Certified for Sport listing — searches of both certifiers' databases by brand and by company return no matches. Goli's own FAQ claims only a 'cGMP certified facility', and its product pages carry unsourced bullets such as 'Third Party Tested Twice' without naming a certifying body or publishing certificates; those are quality claims, not certifications. In 2022 the BBB National Programs' National Advertising Division recommended it discontinue or modify advertising implying its gummies deliver the benefits of liquid apple cider vinegar.

How we assess supplement brands
The FDA does not approve or recall-rate supplements the way it does prescription drugs, so a recall-safety score doesn't apply. Instead we look at the signal that actually separates supplement quality: independent third-party testing and certification. The strongest marks are NSF and NSF Certified for Sport (screens 280+ banned substances), USP Verified, and Informed Sport/Choice; cGMP manufacturing and per-batch Certificates of Analysis add assurance. We surface what each brand is verified for rather than invent a single score. This is general reference, not medical advice — always consult a professional.
